SANIBEL ISLAND
Sanibel Island is located in Southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico coast, just over the Causeway from Fort Myers.

The island is dedicated to the preservation of the environment, wildlife, and a "natural" quality of life (40% of the island is wildlife preserve). The entire island is geared towards giving you a holiday to remember. The pace is slow and you will find neither high-rises nor stoplights. Once you have visited Sanibel you will almost certainly join the many people who visit time and time again.
The island is 12 miles long and 5 miles across at its widest point. More than 30 miles of bike paths lead to shops, restaurants, beaches, attractions and wild life habitats. The island's beaches are unspoiled and natural. Casual is the order of the day. Winters are mild (70/80) and summers (80/90) are tempered by cooling sea breezes and brief afternoon showers.
The accommodation is considered luxurious by any standard, boasting full amenities such as en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, entertainment centres, swimming pools, hot-tubs and many more. The locals are very friendly and helpful. They are always pleased to welcome new visitors to their island paradise and one thing you simply must do while on Sanibel is take a boat tour to learn the fascinating history of the island and surrounding area including about the legendary Jose Gaspar, a brutal Spanish pirate of the late 18th Century and his lost treasure of $30,000,000.
And of course there is something that is deceptively addictive. Shelling. Walking along the famous shelling beaches of Sanibel you will find some extremely exotic shells to collect from the horned Atlantic Whelk to the Conch.
As we said the entire island is geared towards making your holiday one you will never forget and always want to repeat.

We now have photos and information on 65 of the island’s resorts and fully intend to add more until we have every resort, business and attraction listed.
